Grants Specialist
The Grants Specialist researches, develops, recommends and implements funding strategies, writes, prepares, submits, and tracks grant and foundation proposals and applications and provides reports and maintains grant documents. The Grants Specialist coordinates the overall grant application, administration, and reporting process for the Park District, including foundations, government agencies and other funding organizations. The Grants Specialist prepares grant initiatives for review by the Chief of Strategic Initiatives, Executive Director and other professional staff.
Essential Functions:
1. Researches local, state and federal funding sources, including government grants, foundations, corporations and other sources and identifies appropriate funding and strategies for projects and initiatives.
2. Meets annual funding goals set by the Chief of Strategic Initiatives.
3. Works with department management and operational staff to establish scope, objectives and budgets.
4. Coordinates and works collaboratively with other departments to identify grant opportunities, develop grant requests, budget information and supporting documents.
5. Writes & coordinates proposals & grants, analyzes research data and assures compliance with grant requirements.
6. Prepares presentations to funding organizations and grant review staff and responds to review questions and informational requests.
7. Follows grant policies and procedures, updates grant manual and provides periodic training to all staff to assure compliance with established standards.
8. As needed, assists other staff in preparing grant applications.
9. Prepares and/or follows-up on grant correspondence, contracts, disbursements, reimbursements, and reporting.
10. Maintains schedule of submissions, awards, application due dates and reporting process.
11. Tracks status of grant applications and awards to ensure timelines and schedules are met and modify awards as requested.
12. Standardizes and maintains routine submittal components and supporting documents.
13. Maintains and updates grant database and document management, including filing and retrieval.
14. Provides summary grant status reports to the Chief of Strategic Initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in communication, business administration, environmental science, or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with grant preparation, grant writing, prospect research and administration related activities required. Prior experience with a public agency preferred.
Applied knowledge of methods and techniques of grant research.
Ability to conduct professional level research, prepare budgets, read and interpret maps and write descriptive applications.
Proficiency with computers and software, including Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
Strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver's license.
Must be a non-smoker/tobacco user.
