Assistant General Counsel at Parker Hannifin in Cleveland, OH

Responsible for providing intellectual property related legal support and assistance to one or more business groups within Parker. The work will include (i) counseling on a broad range of intellectual property related issues; (ii) preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, (iii) drafting opinions relating to patentability, non-infringement, invalidity, and right to use, (iv) negotiating intellectual property related contracts or contract clauses, (v) managing third party disputes relating to intellectual property, and (vi) managing outside counsel. Scope, Supervision & Interaction:
o Reports directly to the VP Law, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. o Does not currently have direct reports. o Counsel business clients on various intellectual property related issues. o Preparation and prosecution of patent applications, typically in the mechanical or electro-mechanical arts. o Manage a docket of inventions disclosures and pending patent applications. o Manage outside counsel on various issues including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, drafting of opinions, and litigation support. o Providing opinions as to patentability, non-infringement, invalidity, right to use and other intellectual property related topics. o Negotiating intellectual property agreements such as confidentiality agreements, development agreements and license agreements and supporting negotiation of intellectual property related clauses in other types of agreements or terms. o Collaborating with other in-house counsel supporting the business group(s). o Collaborating with others in Parker's Intellectual Property Practice Group to improve our processes, create standard work for increased efficiency and develop, coordinate and conduct training for Parker team members. o Lead and actively participate in Legal Department strategy deployment and continuous improvement initiatives. o Positively represent and impact Parker and Legal Department culture and values. o Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. o Occasional travel to U.S. and overseas facilities. o Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. o Active license to practice law in one or more jurisdictions as well as before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. o Five or more years (eight or more preferred) of relevant, progressive experience as a practicing lawyer dealing with intellectual property related issues. o Strong technical background with at least an undergraduate degree in engineering or physics. o Experience with government contracts is a plus, not a requirement. o Ability to perform each essential function with skill, efficiency and practicality. o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively facilitate, influence and negotiate across regions, personalities, styles and cultures. o Ability to operate and address a variety of legal and business issues independently with minimal supervision. o Creative self-starter with ability to develop and implement innovative, flexible, balanced and practical legal and business solutions. o Collaborative with others, able to work as part of a team to accomplish goals. Salary Range:
$150K -- $200K
Minimum Qualification
