0 Part-time 16 hours ago Full Job Description Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under frequent supervision, perform technical procedures and experiments according to specific instructions/ protocols.
The Research Technician 2 for Neurodegenerative Diseases will assist the lead researcher in conducting studies on animal and cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases.
The main responsibilities include supporting the execution of experiments related to neurodegenerative diseases.
Also, the position is involved in maintaining and breeding animal colonies as necessary for studies.
This position will work with animals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform technical procedures and experiments according to specific instructions/protocols.
Perform laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures requiring the use of sterile technique, staining mammalian cells, and performing assays for protein, RNA, and DNA.
(60%) Record experimental data; collect/tabulate/calculate.
Keep records of the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses.
Organize raw data and enter data into a database.
(13%) Purchase routine lab supplies, collect receipts, monitor expenditures.
Order reagents and other laboratory supplies, and maintain chemical/biological inventory in compliance with EHS to ensure everything is up-to-date.
(7%) Enter sequences into computer; analyzes; performs machine repair.
Contact the vendor to repair lab equipment if needed (6%) Extract data for follow-up.
Maintain clear and accurate raw records in the database system of all animal samples, cell stocks, DNA constructs.
(14%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned.

Daily contact with supervisor to discuss research and maintain workflow.
University:
Occasional contact with other departments to share information.
External:
Limited or no contact with vendors to exchange information.
Students:
Contact with student employees to exchange information.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
1 to 2 years of related experience required.
Education:
High school education required.
REQUIRED SKILLS Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within neurodegenerative diseases field.
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Ability to operate laboratory equipment including, western blotting equipment and confocal imaging.
Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Lab meeting attendance is required.
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
Must demonstrate compliance with CWRU animal research and care (ARC) policies and procedures and compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
Must demonstrate compassion for animals within CWRU facilities and dedication to the Animal Resource Center's mission.
Must handle animals with care and respect at all times.
Previous experience working with animals preferred.
Must be able and willing to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear to protect the health the animals.
WORKING CONDITIONS General laboratory environment.
May have exposure to hazards.
