Summary:
Inspects and verifies products at various stages of production process to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products and oversees hourly employees in a unionized environment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Acts as the liaison between Quality Assurance and the shop floor.
Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducts visual and measurement tests; contains products for re-work; confirms re-work.
Approves in-process production by confirming specifications; Conducts visual and measurement tests; communicating required dimensional information to production supervisor.
Assists in managing the calibration of instruments used in production and inspection processes.
Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
Determines need for additional gaging or replacement gages.
Oversees and trains hourly employees.
Oversees quality sorting; sorting, verification, set-up, training, reporting, and communication.
PPAP support.
Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizes re-work and waste; inputs data into quality database:
first article inspection, tool change inspection, Coordinate activities of Salvage/Inspection duties for containment and MRB salvage assignments Inspects product to determine compliance with order specifications, company's quality control system, and shipping and packing facilities for conformity to specified standards.
Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs.
Maintains quality hold area.
Participates in MRB reviews.
Measures and records data, and monitors statistical quality control processes Performs basic laboratory work; Support production use for CQI-9 Perform quality checks of daily measurement data requirements in machining, Forge hot inspections, salvage, and extrusion; (i.
e.
TIR, run out, etc.
) Recommends and/or implements modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
Verifies hourly inspection reports.
Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
Assists with R&R studies in accordance with the requirements of Measurement System Analysis, Ref.
Manual (AIAG).
Develops/deploys new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
Maintains gage masters.
Supports all aspects of APQP Performs internal audits when required (dock audit).
Perform Quality projects as assigned.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
Indirectly supervises 6-8 employees in the Processing Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Key Competencies Education and/or
Experience:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
Education and/or training beyond high school preferred.
Minimum five years related experience in a leadership role.
CMI or CQT preferred.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to effectively report relevant data and job specific information as needed.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Computer Skills:
Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks and other systems where applicable.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Able to perform instrument calibrations Ability to use hand-measurement tools; micrometer, caliper, dial indicator CMM or Faro Arm experience a plus Able to interpret SPC data Ability to use various hand tools to perform first article inspections Ability to perform dimensional checks using an Optical comparator Other Preferred Skills &
Qualifications:
Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
Prior forging related inspection experience Knowledge of IATF standard Mag particle and NDT familiarity preferred Physical Demands:
Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
Use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed.
Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 40 lbs.
Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery.
Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces.
Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
Comfortable working in confined work environments.
Work Environment:
The Quality Supervisor may interact around historic machinery throughout the facility which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment.
The Senior Machinist may encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation within the department which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances.
