5K - $108K a year Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working with a high degree of independence, the Director of Research Cores and Operations will oversee and coordinate research cores and operations under management of the Office the Senior Vice President for Research and Technology Management, especially the University's forthcoming Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building and Technology Commercialization Incubator.
A primary responsibility of the Director is the collaborative design, creation, and implementation of highly productive, intellectually vibrant, financially sound, safe, and inclusive Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building and Technology Commercialization Incubator environments.
This includes developing and implementing plans for allocating space in the building, facilitating utilization of the building to maximize efficiency while enabling strong interaction among researchers.
The Director will serve as a subject matter expert for cores and facilities under management, including business models and both regulations and policies.
The Director must be highly collaborative with construction and facilities experts, administrators, technical staff, and researchers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinate, optimize, and implement research cores and related operations, especially in the university's forthcoming Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building and Technology Commercialization Incubator.
(25%) Develop policies and procedures for effective scientific operations of research cores, especially in the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building and Technology Commercialization Incubator (25%) Develop a strategic and business plan that aligns with university research priorities and incorporates the vision, goals, objectives, costs, productivity forecasts for research teams.
(15%) Lead the Core Steering Committee to optimize core facilities and strategic investments.
(15%) Administer annual space inventory of cores and related environments.
(15%) Manage rooms and environments for Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building activities.
(15%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serve as a resource to the Senior Vice President for Research and Technology Management to provide tours of the building to potential donors and industry partners.
(5%) CONTACTS Department:
Regular contact with the Senior Vice President for Research and Technology Management; Associate Vice Presidents for Research.
University:
Regular contact with Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities Management or designees; continuous contact with faculty and staff that occupy the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building, Technology Commercialization Incubator, and other research spaces; routine contact with other core managers and environment and safety professionals.
External:
Occasional interaction with industry partners.
Students:
Occasional contact with students in the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY No supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
8 or more years of progressive administrative and/or management experience, including a minimum of 4 years working in technically-oriented research environments.
Education:
MS or Doctorate in science, engineering or medicine required.
REQUIRED SKILLS Technical/scientific understanding of research cores, labs, and spaces, including cultural, physical, and regulatory requirements.
Understanding of unit life-cycles and business models.
Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to work with persons and teams from a wide variety of backgrounds and responsibilities, including university leadership, researchers, architects, construction managers, and custodial services.
Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize, and remain detail oriented in under the pressure of deadlines.
Strong ability to change or pivot promptly and efficiently, and ability to meet to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
Strong ability to problem-solve effectively; developing and implementing alternative solutions as needed.
Technical competence with software programs such as Microsoft Office, database applications, and with internet navigation.
Ability to meet consistent attendance requirements.
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers in-person / face to face.
Prefer knowledge of the configuration, operation, and utilization of the iLab software system.
Prefer business training or background WORKING CONDITIONS General office environment.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
