Director of Software Development

Position Purpose
The Director of Development reports directly to the EVP TMS and will work closely with the software developers across the TMW Enterprise but primarily in the TMW.Sutie product line to guide the development of a complex, mature enterprise software application to meet product and customer goals. The successful candidate will be able to participate in both deep technical discussions and product strategy discussions, and to liaise effectively between these settings. He/she will provide and communicate clear vision to the department and for the product, while simultaneously being intimately familiar with the details of key projects. The successful candidate will be particularly inclined to collaborate with other functional groups and business units, identifying and realizing opportunities to share technology, subject-matter expertise and best practices.
Position Summary
Provide technical and operational leadership for a mature, multidisciplinary software development teams across TMW.Suite
Manage, develop, and mentor a team of software development leaders and their teams
Recruit, hire, and train technical talent
Guide critical development projects from concept to completion
Work closely with colleagues in technical support, professional services, and sales & marketing to improve products and processes
Identify and seize opportunities for partnering across development groups for sharing of technology and best practices, and improving alignment of products
Maintain relationships with senior executives to align product development with overall corporate strategy
Oversee and implement programs to improve customer feedback in the development process
Performs other duties as assigned/requested
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 10 years related experience
Strong software engineering leadership skills
Technical knowledge in more than one programming language and multiple database platforms
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to balance strategic and tactical goals
Strong teamwork and customer service orientation
Ability to communicate and build relationships effectively with a variety of technical and non-technical staff at all levels, inside and outside the organization
Capability to participate fully in both technical deep-dives into code (Delphi, C#,VBNET, SQL) and strategy discussions with product and management teams
A thorough and hands-on understanding of the software development lifecycle, both in customized and commercially-available environments
Experience designing and implementing processes for a mid-sized, multidisciplinary development team
Drive and natural tendency to keep advancing technical and management skills
Familiarity with transportation & logistics industry an asset
Required Competencies

Development and development management experience having programed in multiple languages and databases
