This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Base Metals Center of Excellence and Expertise, (CEE-BM). The selections will be made and oversight of these positions will be maintained by the Chicago Field Office, but the physical location of this position will remain in Middleburg Heights, OH. Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your technical and operational expertise supervising and directing employees involved in the liquidation of entries and claims. This position starts at a salary of $95,062.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $123,584.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $$123,584.00 (GS-13 Step 10). In this supervisory position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing technical advice on the liquidation process. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as a first line supervisor, supervising and directing the administrative work of a group of front-line employees involved in the entry process. Providing technical expertise to higher DHS officials about the control, entry and export of merchandise and revenue collection. Planning and assigning work to subordinates based on priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work. Monitoring and evaluating work performance of subordinates; establishing or recommending performance standards and performing a range of supervisory functions. Monitoring and evaluating delivery of services to customers and assisting in the development and plans to improve them.
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Serving as a technical expert on the most difficult and complex operational questions regarding the entry program as well as developing, implementing, and evaluating programs. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Ensuring that employees are provided with developmental activities to assist them in achieving their full potential. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/30/2020. There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
