Practical Nurse

Completes clinic intake; vital signs, height, weight reminders, immunizations, foot checks, and other nursing clinical reminders and tasks as assigned/delegated. Assists nursing staff and providers with maintaining clinic flow and room utilization. Stocks and monitors equipment and supplies for outdates/expirations. Prepares examination rooms including setup and take-down for outpatient procedures. Tracks mammography and cervical cancer screening patients utilizing Computerized Patient Record System, Excel documents, and registry. Makes observations and thoroughly documents care and patient's response. Performs, reports, and records assigned nursing care including, but not limited to:
oxygen therapy, medication administration, point of care testing, EKG's, and clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated. Assists with minor procedures; including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patient, ensuring comfort and privacy. Monitors patients during procedures. Documents all care given, timely and appropriately, in computerized patient record system (CPRS). Chaperones gender specific examinations performed by the medical provider. Adheres to standards of practice and safe techniques in preparation and administration of medication. Demonstrates understanding of age, gender, and population specific characteristics that affect the health care needs of the female Veteran. Appropriately seeks assistance and guidance by informing RN or medical provider of changes in the patient's condition requiring higher level intervention. Must be a graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing. Must possess a full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. Completion of at least 1 year of additional specialized experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes:
providing a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems; serving as a responsible member of the nursing team and interacting with patients, family members, professional and supportive personnel; preparing, administering and appropriately documenting actions taken to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous medications; initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations; selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; accurately recognizing, reporting and recording relevant patient information. Demonstrate technical proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions; to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information. Knowledge and ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care, medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and administer prescribed medications ( oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous ) and performance of treatments according to established policies/procedures. Observation for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, prompt and accurate documentation of noted changes, and reporting any deviations from normal to RN or MD/DO. Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, and knowledge to seek assistance of the RN and/or MD, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed. Knowledge and understanding of human behavior, patient motivations and reactions to situations, and ability to appropriately utilize this knowledge in working effectively with patients, family members, and other staff. Demonstrate the ability to establish constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills:
fostering an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery. Effectively incorporating knowledge and understanding of established customer service standards in all interactions with patients, family members, and/or internal/external customers. Knowledge and skill in performing support duties for complex diagnostic test and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. Knowledge and Skill in serving as a preceptor in orienting, educating, and training less experienced LPNs/LVNs or Nursing Assistants/Health Technicians related to support duties for these more complex, specialized test/procedures. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
