This course will provide you with the necessary skills to use Excel on a daily basis.

You'll learn how to open, navigate, edit, and save spreadsheets. You'll create new spreadsheets, format data, and analyze it with formulas as well as functions like SUM, AVERAGE, and IF.

You'll see how to change page margins and orientation, include headers and footers, and use page breaks. When the spreadsheet is finished, you'll be able to print it or save it as a PDF file.

Excel Introduction Outline

Getting to know Excel

  • Learn what Excel is and what you can do with it
  • Explore the Excel environment, including the File menu, Ribbon, and Quick Access Toolbar
  • Open and close Excel files or workbooks
  • Learn how workbooks are organized and how to navigate through them

Creating spreadsheets

  • Create a new workbook
  • Enter, edit and delete data
  • Select data and apply basic formatting
  • Organize data by adding, renaming, and deleting worksheet tabs
  • Move and copy data
  • Use AutoFill and Flash Fill with lists
  • Find and replace data
  • Save changes to a workbook

Begin using formulas

  • Enter formulas to perform simple calculations
  • Perform more complex calculations by controlling the order of operations
  • Go beyond simple arithmetic with functions such as SUM and AVERAGE
  • Quickly enter functions with AutoSum
  • Get help entering functions with the Paste Function tool
  • Enter IF functions to return one of two answers based on a condition
  • Move and copy formulas and functions
  • Use "relative" and "absolute" references to control how formulas are copied

Changing the appearance of data with formatting

  • Format text by changing fonts, colors, and alignments
  • Change background colors and apply borders
  • Format numbers, dates, and times
  • Insert and delete rows and columns
  • Hide and unhide columns, rows, and worksheet tabs

Customizing the Excel Interface and Worksheet View

  • Add and remove commands to the Quick Access Toolbar
  • Speed up your work by modifying the Ribbon
  • Change the default font and file location
  • Show and hide gridlines, headings, and the formula bar
  • Switch between normal and page layout view

Preparing a workbook for printing

  • Change page margins, size and orientation
  • Set the print area to print all or part of a worksheet
  • Add headers and footers
  • Add and remove page breaks and adjust them in Page Break Preview
  • Repeat row or columns on every page
  • Preview and print worksheets
